Lactobacillus Bulgaricus
Although discovered only in 1905, the Lactobacillus Bulgaricus bacterium, which causes the lactic fermentation, is known and used thousands of years before us. It was known by the ancient Thracians lived on the Balkans, where is now Bulgaria from 6000 -7000 BC. They used it for fermentation of sheep's milk to obtain yogurt, white cheese, yellow cheese and more - the first probiotic foods in the world. For the population, lived in Bulgarian lands those have been and still are traditional, daily consumed foods that keep the body young, energetic and prevent many diseases. The Thracians also knew the healing properties of the bacteria. Special mixtures were prepared, which were used to treat wounds and other skin diseases.
Today it is known that the friendly bacteria have strong immune stimulating, anticancer, antibacterial, detoxifying, and other useful properties.
Lactobacillus bulgaricus was first discovered by Bulgarian biologist Stamen Grigorov in 1905. He examined under a microscope Bulgarian yogurt and discovered the bacteria which cause fermentation of milk and thus "produces" famous Bulgarian yoghurt, known worldwide as "yoghurt".
Lactobacillus Bulgaricus is a type of bacteria that is significantly different from other probiotic bacteria. LB is of vegetable origin, isolated from green plants, milk and milk products. In nature, the bacteria could be found in the oak (Quecus), the flowers of oil bearing Bulgarian Rose (Rosa damascena), cornel (Cornus mas), Draka (Paliurus) and others.
Lactobacillus Bulgaricus is a unique bacterium that can develop naturally only in a certain geographical area, which coincides with the territory of modern Bulgaria, corresponding to the territory of ancient Thrace. This is probably due to the fact that during the last glacial period, these lands were not iced, there for some unique microorganisms and plants are preserved and not found elsewhere. Outside of Bulgaria Lactobacillus Bulgaricus mutates and cannot grow.
